Biography of interviewees

Sarah Kate Ellis is the president and CEO of GLAAD. GLAAD is an organization that is on a mission to bring better representation of LGBT characters and stories in media. Before becoming president of GLAAD, she led many national media brands like Real Simple which become a big success. She earned many awards like a MIN award for marketing innovation. She is passion about having more LGBT diversity in media and issues.

  2. What do you say is the biggest issue that LGBT representation is facing today?
  3. What can be done to fix the issue of negative tropes of LGBT characters in media?

  5. Do you believe that dangerous tropes like "bury your gay" is affecting young LGBT people?
  6. Why do you think that negative representation of LGBT characters are so harmful to the younger LGBT generation?
  7. There was a huge lack of LGBT representation 20 years ago than today. Why do you think the media still has a long way to go before positive representation of the LGBT?

Lorri L. Jean is the chief executive officer of Los Angeles LGBT center. This center helps homeless LGBT teenagers, and provides them a home where they can be safe while also be free to be themselves. Lorri is well-known LGBT civil rights advocate. She is the one of the most influential people in LA. In 1989, she become the first openly gay person to hold top secret clearance from CIA while working for FEMA. As the chief executive, she helped expand the center to become the biggest provider of services for LGBT in the world.

  2. Do you see a trend of the LGBT youth being upset or depress off how they are portray in media?
  3. How often do you see that trend?
  4. Are there more homeless LGBT youth now than ever more?
  5. How badly is the lack of LGBT representation in media affecting LGBT youth?
  6. Do you believe that homeless LGBT youth are more likely to suffer mentally from negative representation of themselves in media? 
  7. Do you believe that the media is responsible for the lack of LGBT representation or something else?
  8. Who should be responsible for holding the media accountable to be accurate on their portrayals of the LGBT?
